Mission:
The mission of Multnomah County Vector and Nuisance Control (MCVNC) is to promote
community livability by managing vector-borne diseases through surveillance,
suppression of vector populations and code enforcement to maintain and support
those actions. MCVNC works in cooperation with surrounding communities and
other entities to address emerging vector-borne disease issues.
Multnomah County Vector and Code Enforcement Advisory Committee:
The advisory committee was developed in 2005 as a means to acquire diverse
community views and recommendations on the full range of Vector Control and
Enforcement activities, so that we are better able to accomplish our agency’s
mission. Some examples of topics that MCVNC may seek input from the committee
are:
- Should Multnomah County create an enforcement ordinance to assure that mosquito
breeding sites, like abandoned swimming pools, are cleaned or treated?
- Advice on developing education messages that are understandable and meaningful.
- Should Multnomah County have a comprehensive system in place for disposal of
solid waste to reduce illegal dumping?
- Advice on developing a rodent control plan in public parks.
Additional topics will be brought to the committee for input as new vector
and/or code enforcement issues arise.
Committee Members:
After a comprehensive application and scoring process, nine community members
with varying backgrounds were appointed by the Board of County Commissioners
to the advisory committee for a three-year term. The committee meets approximately
2 hours per month. Committee member appointments will be staggered so that
all nine members will not leave the committee at each time. If you are interested
in becoming a future member email lyonsk@co.multnomah.or.us for more information
and to complete an application.
